This past weekend, our brand ambassador Kevin Smith brought the heat to Leighton Speedway in Iowa. Here’s a closer look at his exciting race weekend.
Back on the Track
Kevin got back on the track after a short break, eager to compete at the Leighton Nationals. The excitement was high as he joined the Indiana/Illinois group at the well-kept bullring track in Iowa’s cornfields. With great facilities, tasty food, and tough competition, the weekend promised a lot of fun.
Hot Weather, Hot Racing
Even though the sun was blazing and the temperatures were high, the track was in perfect shape, thanks to the hard work of the Leighton Speedway team. With 125 entries in six classes, the races were intense but friendly. Kevin’s performance stood out as he skillfully navigated the track.
360 Sprint (13.5 Roar) Highlights
In the 360 Sprint (13.5 Roar) class, Kevin faced strong competition from 32 other racers. He qualified 9th overall and managed to finish P-2 in the first round. In the second round, he fought his way back to 2nd place. Despite a tie for 4th-8th place, Kevin finished 2nd in the B-main, just missing a spot in the A-main.
Challenges in the 410 Sprint (Outlaw) Class
The 410 Sprint (Outlaw) class was a tough challenge for Kevin, with 28 skilled racers. After struggling with his car and finishing 4th in the first heat, Kevin and his team made big changes to the car. Although the car’s performance improved, Kevin ended up in the D-main. Despite better handling, he faced a setback with a tumble down the backstretch and decided to pull off to avoid affecting other racers.
A Weekend to Remember
Kevin had a great time over the weekend, making the most of every race despite the challenges. His positive attitude and sportsmanship were clear, and he’s already looking forward to returning to Leighton Speedway. The friendly competition made it a memorable experience for everyone.
